1.0 INTRODUCTION
■──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────■
Welcome to a new player generation.
First introduced by Legend Design '94.
TRIPLE-S offers all functions you have probably missed, like shuffle play
title introduction play, inbuilt file door with file tagging, mute playing,
DOS shell and many, many more !
The current version supports GUS card and .MOD format only. Be patient for
further improvements. It's still a BETA ( gell D-lusion ;) ) !
We are planning to implement all known sound formats, like MTM,FAR ....
and the whole others known to mankind. Further versions will also include
sample editing, saving and modifying. We're always searching for nice id-
eas, so, if you think you might have nice improvement suggestions, don't
hesitate, contact us. Ways to do so are described at the end of the docu-
ment.
BTW: Please excuse our somewhat poor english, we're just german guys trying
our very best, so just forgive and forget ... nobody's perfect ;)
Okay now. Let's go on now.
■──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────■
2.0 USING TRIPLE-S
■──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────■
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
2.1 Command line parameters
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
As mentioned above, the TRIPLE-S player (this version definitivly is a pl-
ayer, nothing more nor less ;)) currently supports ONLY the GUS soundboard
and MOD music file format. To enter the player, just type SSS at your DOS
prompt. Be sure that your GUS environment variable is set up correctly ,
else you'll get some serious problems launching TRIPLE-S ...
Okay. You may specify the name of the module you want to listen to, at the
DOS prompt by typing:
SSS (modulename.[mod]) the .mod extension is not required.
This throws ya in listening mode with the desired module directly. Be ca-
refull to give the whole pathname to the module, otherwise the player gr-
eets you with a nice error message.
!! Note !! that wildcards are valid and strongly recommended ;)
Another nice commandline switch is the "-EX" or "/EX" parameter. This one
launches TRIPLE-S in expert mode, which means, that there are no nasty
hotkey explenations on the screen, preventing you from enjoying the really
nice piccy ;)
To start up in expertmode type:
SSS /EX (modulename.[mod]) or SSS -EX (modulename.[mod])
We spoke of a DOS-shell sometime earlier, well, you are able to invoke a
forced dosshell with TRIPLE-S,too, thus benefitting from some more memory
to use in your DOS application. Just type:
SSS /X modulename.[mod] or SSS -X modulename.[mod]
Be sure you give the modulename as a parameter, this time, else the play-
er will be launched the way it would without *ANY* command line switch !
Further you're able to force the music output to a given portnumber (pre-
erably your GUS port) by typing:
SSS /Pxxx modulename.[mod] or SSS -Pxxx modulename.[mod]
!! NOTE !! : All described commandline switches may also be given in the
INI file. Read about that later ...
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
2.2 The SSS.ini file
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■

; DOS-Shell.
; Note: This command is executed DIRECTLY after
; you jump out to DOS. If you want to run only
; one program in the DOS-Shell, then quit back
; to the TRIPLE-S specify:
; ShellCmd: /C filename

- 2.3 In programm keys explained -
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
Well, by that moment you hopefully reached the player itself !? The scr-
een you're facing now is the "main control pannel", nice name ;) (depen-
ding on the parameter you gave in the INI file ...)
The keys displayed, their function meaning as follows:
<F1> : Open the online help door
<F2> : Open mainscreen
<F3> : Open the onlinehelp door
<F4> : Open the file door (explained later ..)
<N>/<ENTER> : Play next module in tagged file list (more on this later)
<BACKSPACE> : Play previous tagged module
<UP> : Scroll screen up
<DOWN> : Scroll screen down, to get for example module information
or extended help screen topics.
These are the keys displayed on the main control pannel.Further there are
some more "hidden" functions used for controlling the player... the keys
you need to press are as follows:
(available in EVERY menue throughout the player):
<PgUP/DOWN> : In-/decrease playing pattern
<+/-> : In-/decrease main output volume
<M> : Mute play (playing volume is reduced to 25% original)
<PAUSE> : Pause playing, press <P> once more to continue playing
<1>-<8> : Turn ON/OFF played module channels
where 1 = first channel left side
2 = first channel right side
3 = second channel right side
4 = second channel left side ...
<D> : Jump into a DOS-Shell
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
- 2.4 The File Door -
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
This is one of the more powerful features TRIPLE-S offers to you !! A qu-
ick overview:
- Tagging of files for lafter playing
- Introduction play
- Shuffle play
- Supports Harddisks,Floppy drives and CD-ROMS (be sure you have a CD in
in your ROM for this version... otherwise the player, well, just test
it ;) ) as well.
The hotkeys used here are as follows:
<SPACE> : Tag/Untag a single file and jump to the next one
<T/U> : Tag/Untag files to play
<P> : Play chosen MOD or start playing tagged filelist
<R> : Play tagged files in random order (shuffle play)
<I> : Start introduction play. This command plays a
5 pattern introduction of the desired MOD or a
tagged file list
<ENTER> : Change dir
<HOME> : Move directory to the top
<END> : Move directory to the end
<UP/DOWN> : Move directory up and down
<LEFT/RIGHT> : Change drive to load modules from
<F9/F10> : Change active file mask (currently *.MOD or *.*)
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
- 2.5 The Panning Door -
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
Having arrived here, you may alter the way, each channel is played. Well
kinda difficult to explain.Just to mention, you may choose the balance of
each channel.
<RIGHT/LEFT> : Balance choosen channel
<UP/DOWN> : Choose channel
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
- 2.6 The DOS Shell -
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
As explained earlier, you're able to reach the DOS-Shell by pressing "D"
in the player itself. Well, this throws you out into old good DOS. Think
it's just another ordinary Shell ?, Well, it isn't, just press: <ALT> <->
to get into Tripple S command mode!
Now, take a look to the top of the screen:
<+/-> : Change volume of played module
<M> : Mute playing
<P> : Pause playing
<PgUP/DOWN> : Change pattern
Be sure to leave Triple-S command mode by pressing <ALT> <-> again.
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
- 2.7 Special keys all over the player -
■──────────────────∙·· ··∙──────────────────■
Now, let's give it an ending try. Next is an overview of all hotkeys used
in any door of the player but the DOS Shell !
<F1> Get a look at the help
<F2> Switch to mainmenu
<F3> Open the panning door
<F4> Open the file door
<1-8> Switch played channels ON/OFF (Be sure a module is played ..)
<PgUP/DOWN> In-/decrease playing pattern
<+/-> In-/decrease main output volume
<M> Mute play (playing volume is reduced to 25% original)
<PAUSE> Pause playing
<D> Jump to DOS-Shell
<ESC> End the TRIPLE-S session. Back to DOS
For further informations, have a look at the "In programm keys explained"
section, explained earlier.
